Design:
All our custom bass speaker cabinets are designed for optimum performance
of the chosen speaker or speakers. We carefully design the cabinet
volume and ports, providing flatter response and better low frequency
extension. As a result, there is more present clean bass that requires
minimal EQing therefore allowing speakers to perform within their
most linear range.
In addition to a carefully designed enclosure we build a "beam
blocker" into the baffle preventing high frequencies from "beaming"
in a very directional way. The "Beam blocker" diffuses that
beam and helps to produce an even, smooth response.
Although we have
standard models, we consider all our cabs custom
bass speaker cabinets, since all of them are custom designed and
hand built to order.
Construction: Covered with
high quality marine tolex, cabinets are made of the best and strongest
Baltic Birch -- (21 Ply, 1" thick), finger jointed and reinforced
with internal bracing. Damping material is added to control bass and
mid-range quality and to defeat standing waves inside the cabinet.
All metal hardware is used. The cabinet is heavy, which makes it not
only indestructible but much less prone to vibration at high output
levels.
Speakers:
Weber VST Michigan 10's are standard on 410, and 210 models. Michigan
15 is our 115. In our 410FR we blend a 210 with aluminum caps with
a 210 with large paper caps, to produce a unique sound that could
be described as a blend of Ampeg and Jazz Chorus. We purposefully
do not use tweeters and horns. Our thinking behind it is simply that
the bass does not produce a pure tone higher then 5 Khz, if that.
Any of the speakers we use are able to deliver that response, and
some. Why introduce a crossover and another component and mess up
the MOJO of the original speaker limiting its response in order to
say that we can give you 10 or 20 Khz which you won't hear? Many cabs
use that technology with a varying degree of success, we work on enhancing
the speaker's own character and capabilities.
Wiring: All models are wired
in parallel for tight sound and safety. (In case of blowing one of
the speakers, impedance doubles allowing for safe operation of an
amplifier, where as in series wiring, failure of one speaker will
drop impedance in half which can damage your amplifier if the output
transformer is not rated to handle it.) Another significant argument
for parallel connection is that it produces +3Db output vs. series
wiring which is -3Db.
Warranty:
Lifetime limited warranty covering cabinet construction and 1 year
limited warranty covering speakers.
Studio
Series Cabinets
Design:
All our custom bass speaker cabinets are designed for optimum performance
of the chosen speaker. These cabinets are front ported closed back
design just like the Yellow series. We carefully design the cabinet
volume and ports, providing flatter response and better low frequency
extension. As a result there is a more present clean bass that requires
minimal EQing therefore allowing speakers to perform within their
most linear range.
In addition to a carefully designed enclosure we build a "beam
blocker" into the baffle preventing high frequencies from "beaming"
in a very directional way. The "Beam blocker" diffuses
that beam and helps to produce an even, smooth response. This idea
is similar to the one of putting a pencil in front of the mic. All
of those elements are particularly effective in the studio environment.
Construction: We choose fine
local woods to build these cabinets. The West Coast is abundant
in Maple and Alder, both are superb choices for construction as
well as aesthetics of these finely finished cabinets. Baffles are
1" 21ply Baltic Birch. Joints are hand cut Through Dovetails
(the strongest joint).
Additional internal bracing is employed to further reduce internal
vibration transfer, as well as superior wall insulation to reduce
the effect of standing waves inside the cabinet.
Finishing: After the cabinet
is assembled, the wood is sealed and coated with several coats of
our homemade finish and then polished to give it that rich look
of finely finished furniture. We recommend buffing it with a lint
free, soft cloth if a higher sheen is desired.
Some feel that
wood gets "dinged" and scratched and that a wooden cabinet
should stay put in the studio. Although we agree that these cabinets
will be better preserved in a studio, wood can easily be refinished
and polished to maintain the same look for years and years only
becoming better and deeper in colour with time. Vinyl, or Tolex
covered cabinets are harder to repair if the covering gets torn
or scratched. A wooden cabinet will age gracefully and turn into
an heirloom to be treasured and revered.
Speakers:
Weber VST is standard on all models. We found a phenomenal replacement
for B15N original Alnico Jensen. That is our star 115 model. The
210, with a blend of Michigans, works very well as a more general
studio cab.
Warranty:
Lifetime limited warranty covering cabinet construction and 1 year
limited warranty covering speakers.
